What Is Cupping?

Cupping therapy is a soft tissue technique that uses specialised cups placed on the skin to create gentle suction. This suction lifts the underlying tissue, which may help encourage blood flow, reduce muscle tension and support tissue mobility.
Cupping is commonly used alongside chiropractic care to address muscular tightness, movement restriction and areas of overload from daily life, work or sport.
At The Wellness Mecca, cupping is always applied thoughtfully and tailored to your presentation, comfort level and goals.

How Cupping May Help?

Muscles and fascia can become tight or sensitive due to stress, repetitive movements, posture or physical activity. When tissues are not moving well, this can contribute to discomfort or restricted movement.

Cupping therapy may help to:

  • Support circulation to tight or overworked muscles

  • Reduce muscular tension and stiffness

  • Improve soft tissue mobility

  • Assist recovery following physical activity

  • Support relaxation of the nervous system

Care is always focused on how your body feels and functions, rather than chasing symptoms alone.

What Does Cupping Feel Like?

Cupping typically feels like a firm pulling or stretching sensation on the skin. Most people find it comfortable and often relaxing, particularly when used on areas of muscular tightness.
After treatment, circular marks may appear on the skin. These are not bruises and are simply a response to increased blood flow in the area. They usually fade within a few days to a week.
We always explain what to expect beforehand and adjust pressure based on your comfort.

Is Cupping Safe?

Cupping therapy is safe and well tolerated for many people.
At The Wellness Mecca, cupping is only used when clinically appropriate and after a thorough assessment. We modify or avoid cupping where needed, including for sensitive skin, certain medical conditions or personal preference.
Your comfort and safety are always prioritised.

Who May Benefit From Cupping?

Cupping therapy may be suitable for adults, athletes, gym goers and those experiencing muscular tension from work or daily activities. It is commonly used as part of care for:

  • Neck and shoulder tension

  • Back and hip tightness

  • Sporting or training related muscle load

  • Postural strain

  • General muscle soreness or restriction

Cupping can be adapted for different bodies and presentations and is often combined with other hands on care.
